Those lucky enough to be in Jacob’s orbit knew his magic. Few, however, truly understood his struggles. Haunted by memories of past trauma, Jacob sometimes leaned on partying, alcohol, and drugs as a means of escape. But for him, that was a double-edged sword—one that often reopened old wounds rather than numbing them.
In 2021, he began a brave journey of rehabilitation and trauma recovery. That’s when Corduroy entered his life. More than a pet, she was a partner in his healing—a symbol of his progress and his proudest achievement. She gave him hope, purpose, and a reason to keep going. Corduroy saved his life many times—until the day she couldn’t.
Jacob Douglas Peck passed away on June 11, 2024, at 39 years old. That day, Corduroy was taken without consent by a "friend" —a person who separated his fur babies and tore apart the family he built. Jacob had moved beyond the lifestyle she still embraces, and he did not trust her to care for Corduroy. Yet, she refuses to return her.
In what feels like a denial of Jacob’s rehabilitation and growth, his family has been complicit in this situation, leaving us no choice but to fight for Corduroy’s return in Probate Court. They are using Jacob’s own money to keep Corduroy from the only other home she has ever known—the place Jacob wanted her to be, with HIS family. It’s wrong, and it’s heartbreaking. Jacob deserves better.
We need your help to bring Corduroy home.
